A Brief History

The Sexual Assault Victims Advocacy Service (SAVAS) was founded in 1983 as a private non-profit agency to aid sexual assault victims in Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park.  Services have always been provided at no cost to all victims of sexual assaults, as well as their families. SAVAS has grown over the years from a one-room agency with four volunteers to a thriving organization with a paid staff of five and a volunteer pool of eighty-five.  We also provide sexual assault advocate/companion training to interested citizens though our bi-yearly training sessions.  For information please call Dee at (703) 497-1192.

Over the years, SAVAS has received funding through a variety of sources including he State of Virginia, Victims of Crime Act Funds, Department of Criminal Justice, Virginia Department of Health, Department of Social Services, The United Way, Combined Federal Campaign, and Prince William County.  In addition, SAVAS has received generous donations from local businesses and private citizens, and engaged in numerous successful fundraisers with the help of dedicated staff and volunteers.

Our Mission

SAVAS is dedicated to survivors of sexual assault, and to ending sexual assault in our community.  We provide a safe environment in order to encourage survivors of rape and sexual abuse to come forward.  We are pledged to return to these survivors the power of making their own decisions to helping them contribute to their own recovery.  To this end, SAVAS advocates for survivors and their loved ones and works to educate the community on childhood sexual abuse and rape.
